Children in the afternoon preschool classes at East Knox Elementary hold the artwork they displayed at the school’s recent art show

HOWARD – Preschool students at East Knox Elementary demonstrated recently that you are never too young to be an artist.

The preschool, operated by the Knox Educational Service Center (ESC), serves approximately 38 students in two morning classes and two in the afternoon. The classrooms are located in the building’s new wing.

Teacher Erica Beltz said the students’ artwork was based on two books they shared in class.

“We read “Over in the Ocean” together. The children used yarn and beads to create their favorite scenes from the book,” Beltz said. “We also read “Sky Color.” Students used watercolors to paint what they enjoyed about that book.”

The students’ art was posted in the hallway where visitors could see them during the May 7 public art show.

Other members of the East Knox preschool staff include teacher Nicole Cook and assistant teachers Ariel Lashley and Jade Salinas.

Knox ESC also operates preschool sites in Mount Vernon, Centerburg and Fredericktown. For enrollment information call 740-393-6980.
