MOUNT VERNON -- Amy Krumm has joined the staff of the Knox Educational Service Center’s preschool at New Hope after serving 17 years as the lead teacher at the Child Development Council of Franklin County.
“I needed a change of professional environment and a better situation for my family,” she said.
Krumm’s family includes three children – ages 9, 8 and 6 – adopted from foster care. All are students at Centerburg Elementary School.
“We’ve had them quite a while,” she said, smiling.
A graduate of Fisher Catholic High School in Lancaster, Krumm earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Ohio University and a master’s in reading education from Otterbein University.
She is an intervention specialist at the preschool, working directly with children whose learning challenges include autism, speech and language impediments and developmental delays.
“I am focused on helping children with special needs reach their potential. I try to connect with their interests to build an element of trust,” Krumm said.
She interacts with 11 children on a regular basis and maintains regular communication with their parents.
“In addition to messaging updates I am able to talk directly with parents when they drop off and pick up their children each day,” Krumm said.
