MOUNT VERNON – For the second time in a week a senior who met all requirements for his high school diploma was cheered during a “clap out” Friday morning at the Knox Learning Center.
Gabriel Foote was joined by his family for the emotional farewell.

The day marked the successful conclusion of four years at the Learning Center for Foote, a former East Knox student, who acknowledged that he couldn’t manaage his emotions after he said he was bullied as a freshman.
Operated by the Knox Educational Service Center (ESC), the Learning Center is a K-12 alternative school for students who have difficulty succeeding in their home school environments. It serves Knox County and surrounding districts.
Foote displayed maturity and optimism when he and his family met with director Joe Mazzari before his “clap out” walk.
“I plan to open my own used car business,” said Foote, who has earned Automotive Service Excellence (ASC) certification awarded to technicians that verifies their skills and knowledge.
“My years here have prepared me.”
Foote began to mention all of the teachers and staff members who made a difference in his life but stopped, smiled, and added, “The list goes on and on.”
Mazzari told Foote he is confident the new graduate will be successful.
“You have completed all of the academic requirements for graduation. You are ready to move on to the next stage of your life,” Mazzari said.
“All of the adversities you have overcome show me that you can accomplish anything in life that you want. Don’t let anyone or anything get in your way.”
“I won’t,” Foote promised.
Foote will receive his diploma from East Knox and may walk in graduation there in May if he so chooses.
